Global Reporting Geophysical Observatories in Chile( C network )

Chile

Description

A collaborative project between the University of Chile and IRIS has established a network of ten geophysical observatories with combined broadband seismic, strong motion, infrasound, and meteorologic sensors at approximately 300 km spacing along the length of Chile.

The Centro Sismológical Nacional (CSN) at the University of Chile is tasked with 24-hour monitoring of this and other seismic stations throughout the country, making it available to authorities.

Data from existing sensors as well as newly deployed instruments is acquired and processed by locally by the CSN and transmitted to this system.
